Thai Bodywork

This technique is an ancient system combining acupressure, Ayurveda, and assisted yoga postures which serves to open and stretch the body. Through this practice, we can uncover tension and release stress otherwise unaccomplished by other forms of massage. Its method assists in improving body misalignments, athletic performance, as well as increasing flexibility and joint mobility.  Also, it feels nice. I trained under Pia Fiato of www.nyseekyoga.com in Brooklyn, NY. Pia’s goal in this work is not limited to its physical benefits, but also to aid in identifying root causes of mind/body trauma with intention to find a path of self-awareness and healing.

And, in case you’re curious, I love practicing Thai bodywork. As a naturally chatty person from a big, loud family, I’ve found so much fulfillment in quieting down through this practice, focusing on listening to the needs of the body in front of me, bearing witness to its discomforts, and finding tools for relief and release through touch, with few words required.

Thai bodywork is performed on a comfortable mat on the floor. Recipients stay clothed throughout the session, so I recommend comfy, loose clothing like sweatpants and a t-shirt.

Yoga Instruction

I aim to create a class space where each student can feel safe to explore how their body feels and what sort of challenge, play, relaxation, or release it may be craving at that moment. I believe that all people and bodies are wonderfully unique, and I aim to make my yoga class an inclusive, trauma-informed, non-judgemental space where everyone can honor and celebrate their needs, hopefully while having fun and finding some peace. My class style focuses on building a connection between breath and movement, allowing students to lose themselves in a rhythmic flow while tuning into their body's alignment in each posture. Expect most of my “classic vinyasa” classes to include:

-meditation and breathwork
-a warm-up focused on strength and alignment
-breath-to-movement sun salutations to tune the mind and body into the rhythm of the breath
-standing sequences to focus the mind on the body’s alignment and build sustainable, safe, challenging postures
-some cozy restorative postures that will guide the mind and body towards deep relaxation and healing
-a deep, restful savasana with grounding physical assists

All my yoga classes are inspired by dharma and elements of Buddhist and Yogic philosophies, and often these elements are incorporated into guided meditation. I also love both using and removing music intentionally from classes as an experiential tool to enhance a practice. Through private instruction, I can tailor class sequencing towards your individual needs and goals. I offer hands-on assists to support sustainable alignment in standing postures, and to provide comforting touch that invites gentle release in more restorative poses.

And in case you’re curious, I really love teaching. My mind gets so focused, yet clear, and it’s a time where I’m totally in the present. I love the way the energy of the whole room goes on a little mini roller coaster ride, up and up and back down again. And like a roller coaster, at the end, even when you’re back exactly where you started, seated on your mat, everyone’s hair is a little messed up, and everyone seems different, at least for a precious moment or two until life hurtles back into all our consciousnesses.
